Mala Honnatti, who hails from a small town Haveri in Karnataka, is a lawyer by qualification, ex-banker by profession and a mountaineer and marathon runner by passion. She rendered meritorious service in banking industry for 3 decades. Starting her career with Syndicate Bank as PO she moved on to IndusInd Bank as Chief Manager and opted for early retirement in 2007 to pursue her passion for adventure sports and marathon and effectivelychanged her profile as a ACE certified Personal Trainer and fitness consultant.
Along with her banking career, she has pursued her passions, achieved commendable heights in mountaineering and collected medals in marathons on the way. Her passion for mountaineering has taken her to Himalayan heights of 22000’ on many occasions. She has trekked and climbed extensively in the Himalayas for over 3 decades. She was a member of the Pre-Everest Expeditions to Mt.Kamet in 1991 and to Mt.MamostangKangri in 1992. She has also served as a guest Instructor at mountaineering institutes in Darjeeling and Uttarkashi and has the distinction of being detailed as Liaison officer with foreign expeditions to Indian Himalaya.
Mala has run 20 full marathons and 2 ultra marathons across the world including the Everest Base Camp Marathon. Antarctica Marathon, Annapurna-50k and marathons in New York, Richmond, SanFrancisco, Sacremanto, Macau ( China), Miyazaki ( Japan ). She is a prominent figure on Indian marathon circuit with several podium finishes and a hat-trick of gold medals at Mumbai marathon in the 50+ age group. She freelances to train aspirants for marathon and fitness. Regular treks and expeditions, and frequent marathons, have kept her physically robust all these years.
